Cozy Pear & Cinnamon Oatmeal for Baby
A warm and comforting oatmeal porridge with the gentle sweetness of pear and a hint of cinnamon, perfect for introducing new flavors to your little one's palate. This recipe provides a nutritious and satisfying breakfast.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons quick oats or rolled oats (lightly ground for finer texture)
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 ripe pear, finely grated (or 2 tablespoons pear purée)
- A pinch of ground cinnamon (less than 1/16 teaspoon)
Instructions
Prepare the oats: Measure out 2 tablespoons of quick oats or rolled oats. If using rolled oats, lightly grind them in a blender or food processor for a finer texture, if desired.
Boil the water: In a small saucepan, pour in 3/4 cup of water and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
Add the oats: Once the water is boiling, stir in the prepared oats.
Reduce heat and simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the oatmeal simmer gently for about 3-5 minutes (for quick oats) or longer for rolled oats, until it becomes very soft and porridge-like.
Stir frequently: Stir the oatmeal frequently during cooking to prevent it from clumping and sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.
Add more water if needed: If the oatmeal becomes too thick while cooking, add a tablespoon or two of water to reach the desired consistency.
Remove from heat: Once the oatmeal is cooked to a soft porridge consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Add the pear: Stir in the finely grated pear (or pear purée) while the oatmeal is still hot. The heat will help soften the raw grated pear.
Mix well: Mix the pear thoroughly into the oatmeal until it is evenly distributed.
Sprinkle with cinnamon: Add a tiny pinch (less than 1/16 teaspoon) of ground cinnamon to the oatmeal.
Stir in the cinnamon: Stir the cinnamon into the oatmeal until it is well combined.
Cool slightly: Let the oatmeal cool down to a warm temperature before serving. Stir occasionally to help it cool evenly.
Test the temperature: Before serving, test the temperature of the oatmeal to ensure it is not too hot for your baby.
Serve and enjoy: Spoon the warm pear and cinnamon oatmeal into a bowl and serve it to your baby. Watch for their reaction to the new flavor and texture!
Adjust consistency (optional): If desired, add a splash of breast milk or formula to adjust the consistency of the oatmeal to your baby's preference.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required during cooking and feeding.
- Ensure the oatmeal is cooled to a safe temperature before serving to prevent burns.
- Introduce cinnamon gradually to check for any sensitivities.
- Grate pear finely to avoid choking hazard.
- Be aware of potential gluten contamination in oats if your baby is sensitive to gluten.
