Tummy Tickle Apple & Prune Purée
A sweet and gentle purée of apples and prunes to help keep little tummies happy and regular. This simple recipe is packed with fiber and perfect for soothing constipation.
Ingredients
- 4 dried prunes, pitted
- 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup water (plus more as needed)
Instructions
Prepare the Prunes: Place the pitted prunes in a small bowl.
Soak the Prunes (Step 1): Pour 1/2 cup of hot water over the prunes. Let them soak for 5-10 minutes to soften.
Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the soaked prunes (with the soaking water) and the diced apple.
Cook the Mixture (Step 1): Place the saucepan over medium heat.
Cook the Mixture (Step 2): Bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the prunes are plump and the apples are soft.
Cool Slightly: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
Purée (Step 1): Transfer the cooked prunes and apples, along with any remaining liquid in the saucepan, to a blender or food processor.
Purée (Step 2): Blend until completely smooth. If the purée is too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
Check for Smoothness: If there are any pieces of prune skin remaining, push the purée through a fine-mesh sieve for an extra-smooth texture.
Serve: Offer a small spoonful to your little one. The purée can be served on its own or mixed into cereal or yogurt.
Storage: Refrigerate the purée in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freezing: For longer storage, freeze the purée in ice cube trays. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision is required during cooking and blending.
- Ensure the purée is completely smooth to prevent choking hazards.
- Always check the temperature of the purée before serving to avoid burns.
