Sweet Pear Smiles Purée
A simple and naturally sweet purée made with ripe pears, perfect as a first food for babies. Easy to digest and packed with fiber!
Ingredients
- 1 ripe pear (Bartlett or Anjou recommended)
Instructions
Wash the pear thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt or residue.
Peel the pear carefully using a vegetable peeler. Ensure all the skin is removed.
Cut the pear in half lengthwise using a knife. Adult supervision required.
Remove the core from each half using a spoon or knife. Discard the core.
Chop the pear halves into small, uniform pieces. This helps with even cooking and blending. Adult supervision required.
If the pear is very ripe and soft, skip to step 9. For firmer pears, proceed to the next step.
Place the chopped pear pieces in a small saucepan.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of water to the saucepan. The water helps to steam the pears and prevent them from sticking.
Bring the water to a simmer over medium heat. Cover the saucepan with a lid.
Simmer for 5 minutes, or until the pear pieces are tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the pear cool slightly.
Transfer the cooked (or raw, if ripe) pear pieces to a blender or food processor.
Blend until smooth. Add a tablespoon of water, breast milk, or formula if needed to reach the desired consistency.
Check the temperature of the purée before serving. It should be lukewarm or cool.
Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required for all steps involving knives or heat.
- Ensure the purée is cooled to a safe temperature before serving to avoid burns.
- Check for any signs of allergic reaction when introducing new foods.
