Apple Oatmeal Finger Snacks
Soft baked oatmeal bars infused with apple and cinnamon, perfect for little hands to hold and enjoy. A nutritious and easy-to-eat snack or breakfast!
Ingredients
- 1 cup quick oats (or old-fashioned oats, pulsed briefly)
- 1 cup milk (breast milk, formula, or whole cow’s milk)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce (or 1 small apple, grated)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon melted butter or oil (optional)
- Cooking spray or parchment paper (for baking dish)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish (or smaller) with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and makes removal easy.
In a medium bowl, combine the quick oats, milk, applesauce (or grated apple), egg, cinnamon, and melted butter or oil (if using).
Stir all the ingredients together well until thoroughly combined. Ensure there are no large clumps of oats.
Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. This allows the oats to absorb some of the liquid and soften.
Pour the oatmeal mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Spread the mixture evenly across the bottom of the dish. It should be about 1/2 to 1 inch thick.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the center is set. The top should feel firm when lightly touched.
Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it cool completely. Cooling helps the oatmeal bars solidify and makes them easier to cut.
Once cooled, cut the baked oatmeal into strips or bars, sized appropriately for your baby's hand. Aim for finger-like shapes.
Serve the oatmeal finger snacks to your baby. Monitor them while they eat to prevent choking.
Store leftover oatmeal finger snacks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
These can also be frozen for longer storage. Wrap individually and thaw as needed.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required while baby is eating to prevent choking.
- Ensure the oatmeal fingers are cooled completely before serving to avoid burning baby's mouth.
- Check for any allergies before introducing new foods.
- Cut into appropriate size for baby's age and chewing ability.
